Kodak Aperture Works

Following the redevelopment of the historic Kodak site in Harrow, RYNO was specified to provide robust, design-led terrace solutions for the new Aperture Works residential scheme. As part of Phase One of the Harrow View East masterplan, the project delivers 650 new homes set within landscaped courtyards and roof terraces.

The Challenge:

The roof terraces at Aperture Works required a durable, fire-safe, and visually appealing decking and surfacing solution suitable for long-term residential use. With multiple outdoor amenity spaces forming a key feature of the development, the system needed to balance performance, safety, and aesthetics while remaining straightforward to install for the contractor team.

The Solution: TerraSmart® Vitrified Composite Decking & TerraSmart® Resin Bound Gravel

Working in close partnership with Tilbury Contracts, RYNO supplied two complementary surface solutions across the rooftop terraces:

• TerraSmart® Vitrified Composite Decking in Brazilian Walnut finish – delivering a rich, natural timber aesthetic with the strength, low-maintenance performance, and fire safety of vitrified composite.
• TerraSmart® Resin Bound Gravel – providing a seamless, decorative finish with excellent durability and permeability for pedestrian areas.

Together, these systems created a refined, low-maintenance surface solution that enhances resident amenity spaces while meeting the technical demands of a residential rooftop setting.

RYNO worked closely with Tilbury Contracts to deliver a seamless installation process and ensure the terrace surfaces met both design intent and buildability requirements. With L&Q Group as the main contractor, the straightforward install highlighted the efficiency of the TerraSmart® systems and the trusted partnership between all stakeholders.
