Following the success of IKEA’s Hammersmith store, RYNO was again specified by BDP for the retailer’s Oxford Street flagship – a high-profile commercial fit-out on one of London’s busiest shopping streets. The project required a robust, fire-safe solution for a rooftop terrace subject to strict wind uplift mitigation requirements.
The Challenge:
The rooftop terrace demanded a secure paving system that could manage wind uplift risks without compromising visual appeal. With pedestrian access, high foot traffic, and long-term durability in mind, the solution also needed to meet strict non-combustibility requirements and provide a refined finish in line with IKEA’s elevated design standards.

The Solution: TerraSmart® Rail System with Hidden Wind Uplift Restraint
RYNO’s TerraSmart® Rail System was selected for its structural strength, safety credentials, and seamless compatibility with concealed wind uplift restraint – an essential element for the exposed rooftop site.
Key Benefits of the TerraSmart® Rail System:
- Fully Non-Combustible: Euroclass A1 and Certified to BRoof(t4) fire rating ensures compliance with stringent fire safety standards.
- Invisible Security: The hidden wind uplift fixing provides discreet protection against uplift, preserving the clean aesthetic of the paving.
- Flexible Paving Layouts: Supports a variety of layout formats including stretcher bond, herringbone, and mixed-width designs.
- Rapid Water Drainage: Built-in design promotes fast drainage across the terrace.
- Durability & Longevity: Backed by a 30-year warranty and a 60-year design life.
- Sustainable Strength: Made from recyclable aluminium, built to handle heavy loads and high traffic.

Collaborative Approach: Supporting WB Simpson & Sons with Installation
As trusted partners on the project, RYNO worked closely with installers WB Simpson & Sons to ensure a seamless first-time install of the TerraSmart® system. We supported the team with:
- Site-Specific Layouts: Custom designs tailored to the site’s wind uplift findings and structural requirements.
- Multiple Site Visits: Hands-on support throughout installation to guide progress and troubleshoot in real-time.
- Design Coordination: Close collaboration with BDP and other stakeholders to ensure optimal performance and finish.
This project highlights RYNO’s ability to deliver fully compliant, visually seamless solutions for challenging commercial rooftops – reinforcing our ongoing partnership with BDP and establishing trust with both the contractor and client.
