Overview

As part of the redevelopment at 2 Aldermanbury Square in the heart of the City of London, RYNO was selected to supply and support the installation of our TerraSmart® Rail System across the podium and terrace areas. Working alongside Maylim and main contractor Lendlease, the system provided a robust, fire-rated foundation for the project’s premium outdoor spaces.

The Challenge

Located in the Barbican district, the scheme required a paving support system that could deliver long-term durability, rapid water drainage, and complete compliance with fire safety standards. With terraces and podium areas designed for both aesthetic appeal and high foot traffic, the specification needed to combine structural integrity with design flexibility – capable of accommodating mixed paving layouts and maintenance access beneath the surface.

The Solution

Working closely with Maylim, RYNO supplied our TerraSmart® Rail System – a fully non-combustible, Euroclass A1-rated solution designed specifically for terraces, podiums, and balconies.

The system was chosen for its ability to:

• Support a variety of paving formats, including random length, mixed width, stack bond, stretcher bond, and herringbone.
• Allow rapid water drainage through the paving surface, ideal for podium and terrace environments.
• Enable maintenance access to services or piping without compromising structural integrity.
• Offer optional hidden or visual wind uplift fixings, maintaining both function and finish.

With a 30-year warranty and 60-year design life when installed as part of a complete RYNO system, the TerraSmart Rail solution ensured the project met both performance and compliance standards with minimal complexity on site.

Collaboration with Maylim & Lendlease

Although the technical requirements were relatively straightforward, RYNO worked closely with Maylim to ensure smooth specification and delivery. Our team provided product support and guidance to integrate the system seamlessly into the wider construction programme led by Lendlease.
