The redevelopment of 2 Trafalgar Way called for a coordinated external landscape spanning the building’s podium terrace and ground floor.

The original design brought together products from three separate suppliers, including paving, Vitrified Composite® decking, planters, furniture and the supporting terrace build-up. For Midgard, managing these individual elements would have added further complexity to an already technically demanding package.

Through our established relationship with Midgard, RYNO was invited to demonstrate how these elements could instead be delivered as one integrated solution.

Looking Beyond Paving and Pedestals

RYNO has long been recognised for its paving and pedestal systems. However, the team at Midgard were not initially aware of the full breadth of the RYNO offering. By combining paving, Vitrified Composite® decking, bespoke planters, seating, specialist finishes and the supporting substructure, we were able to consolidate several previously separate elements into a single coordinated package.

This included:

The solution was used across the podium terrace, with additional planters and Vitrified Composite® decking supplied for the ground-floor areas.

The challenge

The large podium landscape required paving, heavy planters, seating and support systems to be installed over a sensitive roof build-up.

Each element needed to work together while meeting loading requirements and remaining practical to install. The scheme also included precast benches and a challenging interface between the terrace build-up and the façade, requiring careful coordination and detailed technical input.

RYNO worked closely with Midgard, the consultants and the landscape architects to review load distribution, refine fixing details and coordinate interfaces as the project developed.

Early presentations, product samples and ongoing technical conversations helped the wider design team understand the proposed system and gave them confidence that the different landscape elements could be delivered successfully through one specialist partner.

The Solution + Process

Rather than supplying a series of standalone products, RYNO supported the project as a technical partner from design development through to installation.

Bringing the key terrace elements together under one coordinated system reduced the number of suppliers Midgard needed to manage and simplified communication across the project team.

As requirements evolved, our technical and engineering teams continued to refine the details, resolve challenges surrounding the façade interface and precast bench fixings, and ensure the final solution remained compliant, buildable and efficient to install.

Phased deliveries and ongoing site support then helped keep the external works progressing smoothly.

The Result

By demonstrating the breadth of the RYNO range, we helped Midgard consolidate a complex package, originally divided between three suppliers, into one integrated solution.

The result was a high-quality podium and ground-floor landscape incorporating paving, Vitrified Composite® decking, bespoke planters and seating, supported by coordinated technical design and project delivery.

The project also changed Midgard’s understanding of what RYNO could offer. What began with a perception of RYNO as primarily a paving and pedestal specialist developed into a wider partnership, with our integrated systems subsequently being used across the remainder of the project.

For complex podium landscapes and roof terraces, RYNO provides more than individual products. We bring the complete system together, reducing risk, simplifying coordination and making ambitious external spaces easier to deliver.
