The Kia Oval, also known as ‘The Oval’ is an iconic 25,500-capacity international cricket ground of both modern and historical significance.
A new three-storey spectator stand and two new roof terraces form part of the master plan to expand the grounds and increase its capacity to 28,000.
System Used
Over 15,000 Ryno RP-FR paving pedestals were used across the roof terrace. On a space subject to such regular high foot traffic, 50mm concrete paving slabs are paired with RP-FR pedestals: each capable of supporting loads in excess of 4400kg, providing an optimal level of strength.
This system is fully non-combustible (Euroclass A1 and A1fl fire-rated). Pedestals are designed and manufactured in the UK.
The Challenges
As a fully operational cricket ground with regular matches scheduled, it is critical – like any similarly busy venue – that installation takes place as quickly and safely as possible.
The RP-FR paving pedestal is twisted to height adjust with gasket options for supporting paving along walls and in corners, so installation can happen rapidly, enabling works to continue and matches to resume.
